About Us

All about Yellow Book Interiors

Our Philosophy

Whether your taste is classical or contemporary, traditional or modern, we will provide you with an interior which is practical, stylish and personal. We believe that the point of design is to make life better, to add beauty to your hospitality or commercial interior, that your home should be as unique as you are.

We design for real life. We create environments, across Dorset, Hampshire and Wiltshire, that are robust, beautiful, practical and sensuous in equal measures. In seeking to create timeless designs that work for our clients practically and aesthetically, we draw on art history knowledge and a sense of the long story of interior design to bring depth to each project we take on. By expertly combining colour, textures and patterns we create spaces that work for the people who live and work in them.

We provide a complete interior design service. From a hotel lobby to individual guest bedrooms; from refreshing a single room to restoring a period home; from re-imagining a restaurant to refreshing the furnishings, we’ve got your hospitality, residential and commerical interiors covered.

Sonia Aucott has over 20 years of experience designing and overseeing the installation of interiors for a wide variety of clients.

From top-end country house interiors to restaurants and large hotels, Sonia has led every stage of the design process. She uses her innate sense of style to balance colour with texture and form to create sensory interiors. She draws on her passion and extensive knowledge of interiors past and present to find an innovative balance between period details and contemporary features in all her designs.

Her portfolio includes work for Mendwest Traditional Homes, Queens Hotel Leeds, Harry J Palmer Ltd, Dovercourt Hotel, Holiday Inn – Ellesmere Port & Ashford, Radisson Edwardian, and London Clubs. Sonia is also a regular contributor for the Just About Dorset magazine.

Our name is inspired by The Yellow Book, a cultural quartlery published in the 1890s. With the leading lights of British art and design within its pages, The Yellow Book captured the beautiful forms and creative energy of the arts at that time. As you’ll see from our design philopsophy and way of working with clients, our outlook is firmly 21st century, but just like the original Yellow Book we’re always looking for beautiful ways to brighten everyday life.

An interior designer with 20 years experience in the industry, I have created beautiful interiors for a range of sectors, from private clients, to show homes for local and national house builders, HMOs for developers and hotel refurbishments for major hotel groups.

I’m a firm advocate of collaboration and am keen to promote the advantages of working alongside architects, builders and developers as early on in a project as possible, to ensure that all considerations are met. Enabling fluid communications between all parties ensures a successful development and one which will ultimately exceed a client’s expectations.

As a designer I have access to all manner of talented trades who translate my ideas into reality and I can also source and provide all of the necessary FF&E (fixtures, fittings & equipment) including fabrics, floor and wall coverings, lighting, furniture, decorative accessories and artwork.

Imagine a hotel where your guests instantly feel at home. Imagine a restaurant where the stylish interiors truly enhance the dining experience. Imagine a space that you are proud to come home to everyday. We don’t just create your dream interiors but spaces that are right for your guests and customers.
