Christmas is that wonderful time where we dress our homes with light and beautiful, sparkling decorations.

Scents of pine, warming mulled wine and comforting wafts of home-baked minced pies fill the air and sounds of happy children, bells and comforting carols ring in our ears. We think of a special baby, born to be a priestly king who was given gold, frankincense and myrrh and we too think carefully of the gifts we give to one another.

This season of giving is also one where you can create a sense of magic with the colours you choose to decorate your home with. Gold can set a classical mood and works perfectly when used with reds, greens and white. For a more contemporary feel mix golden decorations with glistening silvers. There are a myriad of beautiful baubles available to dress your tree with. Add depth to your decorating by layering the branches with different sized baubles. Mixing gold and silver will bring a magical quality to your tree, which will shine under the twinkle of fairy lights. Wrap your well-chosen gifts with co-ordinating papers in a matt silver, gold, or even cream and adorn with pretty ribbons in a variety of widths. Add personal touches with hand-made gift tags and tiny strings of bells.

For your Christmas table, lay with a crisp white cloth, a silver runner and layer with fresh greenery from your garden. Intersperse with tall white church candles and glowing tea lights placed in gold lustre-wear holders. The warming candle light will add sparkle and elegance to your table and create an intimate feel while you enjoy your festive fayre.

Gather round the fireplace when the lights draw in and dress your mantel piece with more greenery and sprigs of pine and rosemary for a fragrant and warming centre piece to your living room. Decorate with a string of white lights and delicate little baubles in silver and gold which will sparkle in the firelight. Adorn the hearth with large vases of assorted baubles and surround with numerous candles to create a look which will enchant and transfix with the warming crackle of the fire.

Don’t forget to create an inviting entrance to your home by hanging a natural garland on your front door, hung from a beautiful metallic ribbon and dotted with pretty glimpses of silver and gold. Finally, line your path with tall lanterns full of candles which will guide your guests to your door. With glistening touches like these, your home will be fit for a king!
