Hello there lovely people and welcome to Yellow Book Musings! I’m an interior designer with a passion for creating elegant, timeless and individual homes.
The purpose of this blog is to tell you about the exciting projects I’m working on, bring you news from the world of interior design, provide you with tips on how to style your home, and, if you’re looking to sell your house, advice on home staging and how to how prepare your property for sale.
So for my first post I thought it would be a good idea to tell you about some of the things which are taking place with Yellow Book Interiors at the moment.
Once a month I also hope to bring you a post on the work of the talented designer makers I meet. I passionately believe in supporting genuine craftsmanship and talented designers who manipulate beautiful materials in traditional ways to create true works of art. Next week I’ll be travelling to Somerset to meet a company which design and make bespoke kitchens and architectural joinery, specialising in English Country House detail. It’ll be fascinating to find about how they work, the materials and methods they use and I’ll be sure to take plenty of photos of the beautiful work they produce. Look out for the result of that visit later in the month.
Spring is a busy time in the world of interior design and sees the launch of the new collections of fabrics and wallpapers. This month I’ll be taking a trip to the Chelsea Harbour Design Centre for London Design Week to discover all the latest ranges and pick up some beautiful sampling which I’ll share with you here. As an interior designer it’s so important to keep update with the latest trends. New materials and products are appearing all the time and it’s essential that I can offer my client’s the best of all that is new and innovative for their project. Visiting trade shows is so refreshing and I always come home brimming with new ideas and inspiration! To whet your whistle for what’s coming up at London Design Week, here are some snaps from Decorex 2015.
Finally, I must tell you about my home staging client who I first started working for just before Christmas. He is a lovely gentleman who is looking to down-size from his large 4-bed house with two and half acres of land on the edge of the New Forest. He asked me to write a full home staging report for him in which I stated all the work he would need to do to prepare the house ready for sale in the Spring. Working room by room I wrote a comprehensive report advising which paint colours, light fittings, bedlinen, curtains etc. to use and over the last couple of months he has worked extremely hard at decluttering and redecorating his house. Although it’s not quite finished yet, I know the house is going to look wonderful. I can’t wait to show you the before and after pictures!
So, lots of exciting things in the pipeline and I look forward to sharing them all with you here.
In the meantime, I’d love to receive your feedback, or if you have a project you’d like some help with, please drop me a line!
Take care, Sonia x
