Boy’s Room

The challenge for this bedroom was to provide a full-size single bed and maximise the storage space whilst allowing for the fact that the bulkhead for the stairs was a prominent and permanent feature of the room.

I therefore designed this cabin bed which was built on top of the bulkhead. It has three drawers underneath, and a compartment under the mattress which is used to hide Christmas and Birthday presents!

Over the bed, I designed a bookcase with integral reading light which makes for a cosy space to read stories before bedtime.

On the other side of the room, a full-size wardrobe and half depth cupboard were built for clothes and toy storage, and a small desk fitted in between for the inevitable homework.

I chose a star theme for the room which is a wonderful motif and works well for boys and girls.

For the roman blind, I used a gorgeous grey linen fabric from Sarah Hardaker, and Laura Ashley Dove Grey paint on the walls.

A gentle grey polypropylene carpet was fitted which is a practical addition for a growing boy in the room.

For the alphabet over the bed, I painted the edges of the letters and then covered them in different papers to provide a fun, yet educational feature to the wall.
